Langano is a way to learn a language by talking out loud with conversation partners who speak it: characters with their own names, faces and voices, written and voiced by AI. Here is what it keeps and why.
- Your voice is turned into text so your conversation partner can answer. Audio is not stored; the text of what you said is kept as part of your progress.
- Your progress (words met, level, who you talk to, kid profiles, the conversations) is stored so the next conversation picks up where you left off. The workings behind each of your conversation partners’ lines are kept for 60 days, then trimmed.
- Your account (email, name, Google id if you sign in with Google) exists only to keep that progress across devices and to handle a paid plan. No password is stored when you sign in with Google.
- Shared recordings: a line a conversation partner says is recorded once and replayed for anyone who hears the same line, only when nothing of yours is in it. A line with your name or something you told one of them in it, and every line in a kid profile, is spoken for you and not kept. What you ask how to say, and your mistakes, stay yours.
- Kids: a kid profile is made by the grown-up who owns the account, under that account (a kid never signs up or pays), and leaving it takes that grown-up’s PIN (or their password). It has its own words and its own conversation partners (animals their own size) and a stricter filter on everything they say. Nothing from a kid profile is shared.
- Services used: OpenAI (writing replies, and a backup voice), Google Gemini (the voices), OpenAI and ElevenLabs (turning your speech into text), TypeSafe Jev (decisions), Neo4j and Neon (storage), Cloudflare (storing recorded lines), Vercel (hosting), Stripe (payments). They receive only what is needed for that task. If you add your own OpenAI key, your replies and voices are made on it, with OpenAI.
Delete your account from the account page and it is gone: your account and sign-ins, your progress and your kids’ profiles, your conversations, what your conversation partners remember about you, anything you flagged, and any subscription (it ends at once). What stays: Stripe’s own record of past payments, which the law asks it to keep, and anonymous counts (how often a word was learned at a level) that never named you. Questions: penser.co@gmail.com.
